2026-02-04 Activity
Sessions
Two primary focused work sessions today, targeting different projects across much of the day (06:07 through 23:58).
ooxml
Morning (06:07-09:40, session 16bfe242)
SML codegen refresh work — bringing ooxml-sml up to parity with ooxml-wml's codegen infrastructure. Tasks included:
- ToXml serializer generation (was missing)
- Updating codegen to match wml patterns
- Queueing up DML/PML parity work (already in TODO)
- Working on roundtrip tests (unignoring them)
- Task selection and review cycles
Throughout: commit-review-continue pattern; user providing guidance on which tasks to prioritize and asking for review gates on complex changes (task #5). Request for clarification on "unnamespaced" corpora cross-referencing.
ptera-world
Evening (21:53-23:58, session e788e54f)
Graph visualization and information architecture work. User exploring interaction and filtering design space:
- Initial investigation: shift-scroll for "scrolling through layers of abstraction" — user rejected as low value prop if just regular scroll
- Pivot: what projections/filters are actually useful? Extended to groupings and lens frameworks
- Metadata proposal: frontmatter with "problem statement" labels (what question each project solves) + weighted relationship edges + status/maturity/technology metadata
- File namespace strategy:
ecosystem/*,project/*, etc. to avoid URL conflicts (user noted having both "lua" and "rust" projects, so critical) - Implementation: codegen-derived nodes for regions, migrations for files
Late session encountered rendering bugs:
- Region nodes fade in but then disappear (animation/lifecycle issue)
- Essay nodes don't move during layout transitions, causing overlaps
- All nodes rendering gray instead of colored (paint/styling regression across all layouts)
User pushing back: "all four groupings were all colored before, what happened?" — suggests regression from recent changes.
Patterns
- Small task cycles: ooxml session was many small steps (commit → review → plan next), suggesting systematic work through a backlog
- Design-first exploration: ptera-world session was question-driven (what lenses? what layouts?) before implementation, but hit technical issues late
- User engagement: frequent guidance on priority + review requests suggest collaborative iteration rather than autonomous work
Token Usage
Total for 2026-02-04: 82.0M tokens (input: 14.7k, output: 2.1k, cache read: 80.5M, cache create: 1.5M)
Two sessions dominated the day's token consumption, both with exceptionally strong cache efficiency from carrying context through long conversations:
| Session | Output Tokens | Cache Hit Ratio | Total Tokens |
|---|---|---|---|
| 16bfe242 (ooxml) | 1,566 | 98.4% | 63.5M |
| e788e54f (ptera-world) | 527 | 97.8% | 18.1M |
| 38ea2519 (ooxml) | 18 | 91.8% | 0.5M |
The ooxml session (16bfe242) was by far the heaviest in output tokens and total cost, driven by repeated context reloads across many sequential turns working through task backlogs. The high cache hit ratio (98.4%) reflects the benefit of prompt caching when processing the same codebase across many turns. The ptera-world session (e788e54f) also showed strong cache efficiency (97.8%), suggesting similar context reuse patterns during the long visualization design and implementation work.
