A reflective Sunday session spanning personal strategy, market analysis, and foundational game design research. One extended conversation in github-io.

Sessions and Activity

github-io

One session starting 02:56:52 UTC — a wide-ranging exploration of AI usage patterns, career/income strategy, steam game economics, and the feasibility of building a rapid-iteration game framework as a monetization vehicle.

Flow:

  1. AI usage audit — read a commentary on AI coding practices (~/prolific_vibe_coder.txt), then compared against own patterns. Surfaced recurring issue: AI output quality degrades when stepping back for architectural perspective; multiple projects stalled despite local correctness, suggesting hidden architectural debt. Acknowledged treating AI output as correct-by-default creates false confidence.

  2. Career/income brainstorm — details redacted (personal financial situation). Broader theme: weighing product-building against employment, working through options via process of elimination; user pushed back on the agent's incremental narrowing. Core tension: avoid "token burn rate of 999,999," but also have ~54 projects with no monetization yet.

  3. Steam economics case study — read a $4 incremental game that made ~70k despite being 25th-percentile quality + negative reviews citing "vibe-coded" AI work. User noted: quality doesn't correlate to revenue if marketing is professional; observed aeriea (own research game) is too ambitious to be a viable product.

  4. Game framework ideation — pivoted to a "stupid, massively scope-crept" idea: a 3–6 month composable game substrate + reusable infrastructure (multiplayer, leaderboards, Steam achievements), then rapid game shipping (afternoon–week per game). Compared to sokpop/s&box models. Identified hard questions upfront: (a) enumerate hard/reusable/error-prone parts of game design, (b) define "what makes a game good" as research, not conclusion.

  5. Game design research — spawned task-agent to research game quality frameworks. Result: MDA (mechanics→dynamics→aesthetics), Flow Theory (challenge-skill balance), Bartle Taxonomy, Self-Determination Theory (competence/autonomy/relatedness), Raph Koster (pattern recognition), Keith Burgun (strategy/RNG), Game Feel (polish/juice), plus designer voices (Sid Meier, Jonathan Blow, Jenova Chen, Miyamoto quote archaeology). Compact, cited research artifact generated.

No commits; introspection-only session.

Note: Final output line shows aggregate "528 messages from 5 sessions" across the full normalize run (multiple days), not 2026-07-13 alone. The github-io session showed strong cache reuse (127K cache read with modest 1.7K create), indicating high context reuse in a continuous conversation.

Observations

  1. Uncertain direction, high reflection. This was not feature/product work — it was exploration of career feasibility, AI quality patterns, and market viability. User was introspecting on 54 projects with no revenue and questioning whether the substrate/product approach is real.

  2. Sokpop precedent. User cited sokpop as prior art for "ship 100 small games, only a few hit big." The 70k Steam case study showed asymmetric upside (terrible game, professional packaging, 70k revenue) but user remains skeptical of churn-and-hope as a model.

  3. Aeriea tension. Acknowledged aeriea's ambition (beyond-SOTA in multiple areas) makes it a research project, not a product. Same architectural debt pattern: technically sound but incoherent scope.

  4. Research-over-conclusion framing. User's closing note: "the point of research is to research not to conclude" — suggesting a pivot toward systematic exploration of game design space rather than premature optimization on any one game idea.

Projects Touched

  • github-io — introspection, career strategy, game design research coordination.
  • aeriea — mentioned as current-but-unfocused research project (not touched, just contextualized).

Next Steps (inferred)

  1. Game substrate research: enumerate reusable/hard parts of game architecture; define quality frameworks more rigorously.
  2. Market fit exploration: validate whether rapid-iteration small games can compete against sopkop and 70k-revenue precedents.
  3. Career decision: resolve whether this path is genuinely viable or employment is the baseline.
  4. Architectural audit: return to 54 projects and assess hidden debt (per the AI-output reflection earlier).
