Daily Log: 2026-07-19

mycelium heavy on archive/VFS design and algorithm finalization. quickshell debugging hot-reload crash. brief io project session on video critique and philosophical discourse.

Sessions and Activity

mycelium

Session 4b4901ae (15:21–18:42) — VFS path-resolution algorithm workshopped in detail.

archive handler path-resolution algorithm discussion (15:21-15:35): O(n) worst-case vs binsearch O(n log n) trade-offs, nested archive paths (foo/bar.zip/baz/quux.zip/main.js), fallback node handling, VFS layer as extension point beyond archives.

Two large agent tasks executed:

  • Archive handler system + VFS generalization (see previous day notes)
  • HTTP imports with language-specific hooks (see previous day notes)

quickshell

Session c9779f89 (07:46–08:41) — Hot-reload crash debugging and fixes.

crash on hot reload identified via coredump 3288812. root causes found and patched:

  1. Component.onCompleted: handler defined twice — deleted callLater duplicate
  2. Multiple setter calls breaking toggle state
  3. Integrated fixes into core hot-reload path

Three crash PIDs tested in sequence: 3334646, 3336579, 3357667. flake inputs updated for nix ecosystem propagation across repos.

io

Session 3fc14e5e (03:01–03:27) — Critique session on tech-scifi video and e/acc discourse.

brief discussion of video content: tech anxiety framing vs substance, e/acc register (self-assured egotistical tone distinct from actual content disagreement), metaverse skepticism (VRChat/Discord/Second Life/Warframe/Meta's Horizon all functionally fine), velocity questions for solo dev vs billionaire-backed efforts, impact scale of small projects.

philosophical, no deliverable.

Token Usage

ProjectSessionsOutput TokensCache ReadCache Create
mycelium1~7,000~800,000~15,000
quickshell1~3,500~600,000~40,000
io1~2,000~350,000~5,000

Total: ~12,500 output tokens, ~1.75M cache read, ~60K cache create

Observations

  1. Archive path algorithm thoroughly workshopped — nested zips, fallback nodes, boundary detection all discussed before implementation. spec was tight by the time agent picked it up. five-step algorithm accounts for pathological cases (every level is directory with red herring extensions).

  2. Quickshell hot reload crash had multiple causes — not single bug; several setter/lifecycle issues compounded. flake propagation across ecosystem needed coordination.

  3. Brief io session on e/acc tone/substance — user contests register-driven framing (self-assured egotistical tone) separate from content disagreement. distinct epistemology: user emphasizes empirical improvement + standards; counterpart emphasizes structural corruption risk.

Projects Touched

  • mycelium — VFS/HTTP completion (archive handler, HTTP imports)
  • quickshell — hot-reload crash debugging, flake ecosystem updates
  • io — discourse analysis (no deliverable)

Next Steps (inferred)

  1. quickshell — verify fix stability with extended hot-reload testing
  2. mycelium — HTTP VFS testing in realistic scenarios; Lua support planning
  3. io — continue discourse mining if relevant to other projects
