Daily Log: 2026-06-22

A heavy multi-project day whose register is prior-art archaeology and design patience. The dominant move across every active thread is slowing down to study what already exists — mining reference codebases (aeriea), modeling the live codebase as a graph (private-recipient-b), and interrogating whether the current typechecker architecture can ever converge (crescent) — before trusting any execution. The TTRPG sidequest launched in the evening, opening a corpus-extraction track. Fuwafuwa ran its full autonomous loop underneath (129 sessions).

Sessions and Activity

private-recipient-b (business-automation substrate)

The session that had been running since June 13 reached its June 22 turn with the user explicitly redirecting from implementation churn toward principled architecture work: "i don't want to churn more and more and more on architecture rather than spending time designing."

  • The day's primary output was a machine-readable codebase model: subagents produced docs/artifacts/architecture-design-2026-06-22/model-graph.json, model-graph.md, and model-diagram.md — a faithful graph of all slices, cross-domain edges, and hub concentrations, with computed in-degree rankings per concept.
  • The model surfaced two distinct runaway problems: Hub 1 (the People parking-lot — domain data without behavior, held in kernel) vs. Hub 2 (the projection surface — 933 hand-written routes vs. 51 thin bindings, a ~57% cross-product problem). The cross-domain edge mesh itself is the near-linear ~10% and was identified as the low-leverage lever.
  • Two candidate architecture shapes were designed and written as artifacts: an events-first model (dissolves foreign-read mesh via a single Fact channel, but addresses the wrong runaway) and a capability-effect model (targets the projection surface via the three missing composition primitives: session-context InputSource, uniform envelope, composition binding).
  • User pushed hard against over-reliance on principles ("maybe stop relying on principles. obviously our composition story is a disaster. why?") and against premature approval of suggestions: "can you please stop being convinced every one of my suggestions is the right one."
  • By end of day the encapsulation question remained open — "how the fuck do normal microservices architectures do it" — and a real codebase audit (wasp.sh) was commissioned, with the caution that its goals might not match.

Observations: The architecture-modeling artifact approach (graph as data, visual hubs, computed edge metrics) is the first session where the composition problem was measured rather than reasoned about from first principles. The model confirmed the user's instinct that the projection surface is the real runaway, not the slice-to-slice edges.

aeriea (embodied sandbox)

This session, running from June 14, reached its June 22 activity with the user redirecting attention from a rendering-focused track toward a wide prior-art sweep of the genre's reference codebases.

  • "why the hell are we overfocusing on entities at all" — the redirecting question that opened the June 22 activity, pulling toward the content/animation/character layers.
  • Commissioned a full mining sweep: CoC, TiTS, Nimin, Lilith's Throne, CharacterViewer — cloned, studied, synthesized as docs/research/reference-games-prior-art.md. A depth pass followed on the highest-signal systems (the LT sex-engine act tuple, TiTS race()/mfn() identity projection, DIC axis-priority defaulter, CoC/TiTS prose layers).
  • User critique of the synthesis was immediate and sharp: "sounds a little over-specific" (on the act tuple); "does not work cleanly with mixed race/gender" (on the argmax identity pattern); "so ad hoc" (on the digit-string axis defaulter); "incredibly lossy" (on the trait-bag argmax). None of the reference patterns were accepted as portable models — they were treated as counter-examples to reason from.
  • The thread that followed: "why is BDCC2 'playable' (even though it's so early stage there is no game) and ours is not?" — returning to the baseline question of why aeriea has no playable loop yet and demanding diagnosis rather than features.
  • Design-pass gating was introduced: "new features need to be gated behind a design pass, full stop."

Observations: The prior-art sweep produced real artifacts and identified the genre's shared patterns (authored fragments × state-selection × recombination; identity as projection; continuous body / finite surface). But the user's reaction — rejecting each as "over-specific" or "lossy" — suggests the value wasn't in porting patterns but in naming what aeriea must specifically not do.

crescent (LuaJIT ecosystem — typechecker)

The session from June 20 continued into June 22 with the user watching proof-assistant progress and asking sharp questions about maturity and usefulness.

  • June 22 04:12: "sure 😃 i don't mind keeping extending" — a permissive pass on autonomous extension of the Lean proof model.
  • June 22 08:12: "how exactly is this useful if half the language constructs are missing" — the user surfacing the gap between proof coverage and practical usability.
  • June 22 09:00: "connecting it now means tech debt later. what a copout" — rejecting a suggestion to connect the partial checker to the runner prematurely. The user's explicit worry: if each file has a 90% chance of passing, a 1,000-file codebase has a ~0.003% chance of checking cleanly — making premature connection worse than useless.

The day's crescent work was the proof assistant continuing to extend the Lean model: unification, value typing, feedback edge detection (topological sort over the expression graph, feedback edges identified by backward-in-topo-order placement), and the semantics of the z⁻¹ delay operator.

Observations: The user's "copout" rejection is the same correctness-first instinct seen throughout the ecosystem — don't ship partial coverage as if it were a useful tool. The proof must cover the language before it earns connection to a runner.

unshape (procedural generation)

The session from June 19 reached June 22 with work on the feedback/delay semantics in unshape's graph model, and then pivoted toward a UI design thread that ran into the early morning.

  • June 22 03:56: "layered carving synthesis?" — a user query on the design synthesis under discussion, terse enough that the exact subject isn't recoverable from the message alone; the context was the unshape feedback-edge/cycle-resolution design.
  • Feedback edge archaeology: the grid-as-feedback-in-graph debate, topological sort as the natural way to detect backward edges, the z⁻¹ / delay operator semantics, "aren't feedback edges OBVIOUS from toposort from inputs? hello??? when it goes backwards in topological order??" The user pushed hard on why the agent's mental model of cycles vs. tick boundaries kept being wrong.
  • Late in the session: UI design thread. "we need a ui" / "the aspiration is 'beyond sota'" — followed by cargo build, Vulkan loader errors, wgpu version pinning, and library-path debugging.
  • Expression-language naming: the wick crate name on crates.io was discovered to be taken (postdating the project's own use). seelie was floated ("doesn't evoke one expression lowered to many targets"; "leaks whimsy not rigor") and not chosen. dew was noted as the existing internal name with the crates.io availability question open. No name chosen — per house rules, the conceptual space was refined, not resolved.
  • Error message quality was flagged as inadequate: "i'm not convinced this slop as an error message is acceptable for something that's supposed to be production ready."

Observations: Two distinct threads ran through the unshape day: the graph-semantics thread (feedback vs. delay, toposort) and the editor/UI thread. The naming question is open and should not be forced.

github-io / TTRPG sidequest

Session [66e74711] started June 22 14:46 — "sidequest time" — triggered by a Discord conversation about cultivator TTRPG systems.

  • The house style was established immediately: 110% modular, scale-to-zero, every subsystem optional and composable. "scale to zero implies you cannot privilege anything."
  • The irreversible-ratchet realm model was discussed (qualitative phase-changes through gated breakthroughs, one-way climb). The user pushed back on naming conventions for optional subsystems: "i'm not convinced you're just throwing shit at the wall and giving random shit names to make it sound more technical."
  • After scaffolding the system, the session turned to corpus grounding: "we don't have many, many, many webnovels as 'canonical' sources for the genre? is it possible at all to fetch them somehow?" — then /mnt/ssd/books/xianxia/ became available.
  • A calibration bake-off was launched: extract identical xianxia chunks with Haiku/Sonnet/Opus, judge recall against the Opus ceiling. Results: mean recall Haiku ~44%, Sonnet ~54%, across 6 sample chunks. Sonnet's extraReal story was notable (7 verified mechanics Opus missed, clustered in late-chunk material). Haiku read as having stopped extracting near the chunk midpoint — positional drop, not difficulty.
  • The session ran into June 23 with chunk-size and slicing experiments (staggered, random slicing) to characterize completeness.

Observations: The xianxia extraction bake-off produced real recall numbers for Haiku and Sonnet against Opus as a ceiling. The key finding: both cheaper tiers cover the load-bearing power-system spine but drop the cross-referenced and economic/governance strata. Staggered/random slicing was identified as the next lever.

fuwafuwa (autonomous)

129 sessions on 2026-06-22, the standard autonomous Discord/Moltbook monitoring loop (session start → check channels/DMs → respond if warranted → sleep → repeat → end). No user-directed messages and no tool-call instrumentation captured — consistent with the lightweight, system-driven autonomous routine.

The long-running sessions (private-recipient-b, aeriea, crescent, unshape) all started before June 22 and report under their June 23 session metrics. Token counts for these sessions are captured in the 2026-06-23 log. Fuwafuwa is the only project with a June 22 metrics section (129 sessions, 258 turns, zero tool calls — pure autonomous loop).

Observations

  1. The day's mode is archaeology before action. All four user-directed threads made the same move: before writing code or executing a design, go study what actually exists (reference codebases, live codebase graph, proof coverage, genre patterns). This is consistent with the "validate against reality" principle applied at the design level.

  2. Graph-as-data for architecture. private-recipient-b produced a machine-readable codebase model as an artifact — the first time the composition problem was measured rather than argued. The graph revealed the real runaway (projection surface, ~57%) vs. the one that had been discussed most (cross-domain edge mesh, ~10%).

  3. Rejection of portable patterns. aeriea's prior-art sweep produced deep synthesis artifacts, but the user rejected every concrete pattern extracted from the reference codebases as over-specific, lossy, or ad-hoc. The value is in knowing what not to copy, not in finding a model to port.

  4. Premature connection rejected. crescent's "copout" judgment: connecting a partial proof model to a runner before it covers the language is not a milestone, it is tech debt. The same instinct as private-recipient-b's "if we can regress at all, we WILL shoot ourselves in the foot."

  5. Expression-language naming is a real open problem. wick is taken on crates.io. Neither seelie nor dew is settled. This is a genuine blocker for publishing and should be tracked.

  6. Extraction recall empirically measured. The xianxia bake-off is the first quantified data on Sonnet vs. Haiku extraction recall (54% vs. 44% mean against Opus ceiling). Haiku's drop is positional (stops near chunk midpoint); Sonnet's drop is structural (cross-referenced subsystems, governance stratum).

Projects Touched

  • private-recipient-b — codebase architecture modeled as a graph artifact; two composition candidates designed (events-first, capability-effect); projection surface identified as the dominant runaway.
  • aeriea — prior-art sweep across CoC/TiTS/Nimin/LT/CharacterViewer synthesized as research docs; design-pass gating established; "why is ours not playable" thread opened.
  • crescent — proof-assistant model extended; premature connection to runner rejected; feedback-edge/delay semantics under active development.
  • unshape — feedback/cycle-resolution semantics (toposort, z⁻¹ delay); UI design thread started; wick crate name conflict discovered; error message quality flagged.
  • github-io (TTRPG sidequest) — cultivation TTRPG scaffold started; xianxia corpus extraction bake-off (Haiku/Sonnet/Opus recall measured).
  • fuwafuwa — autonomous Discord/Moltbook monitoring (129 sessions).

Next Steps (inferred from session endpoints)

  1. private-recipient-b: complete the composition design (capability-effect vs. events-first) and settle which candidate addresses the projection-surface runaway; execute on slice encapsulation with statically-enforceable invariants.
  2. aeriea: settle a design-pass gating process before any new features; diagnose why the project is not yet playable at a BDCC2 level; resume 3D visual channel work with the adopted paperdoll foundation.
  3. crescent: extend Lean proof coverage toward the language's full construct set; do not connect the checker to a runner until coverage warrants it.
  4. unshape: resolve the feedback/delay operator semantics; continue UI design thread; settle the expression-language rename out of band.
  5. github-io (TTRPG sidequest): run staggered/random slicing experiments to characterize extraction completeness; continue corpus-grounded mechanics design.
  6. fuwafuwa: continue autonomous monitoring at baseline.
