Daily Session Log — 2026-04-10

Overview

A single extended private-recipient-b session spanning 04:57 AM to 07:06 AM — a continuation of the Lit→rainbow migration work from the previous day. The session involved delegated task execution rather than direct user interaction, with heavy cache hit rates from prior context buildup.

Projects & Activity

private-recipient-b

The core session (71b9e931, ~26.5 hours total elapsed) focused on post-migration cleanup, form refactoring, and infrastructure work.

Work completed:

  1. Form state refactoring — Migrated tutor form to use createForm helper, replacing manual signal wiring with formField() builders and handleSubmit() callback pattern. Form-level error display now integrated via formErrorsEl().

  2. Table rendering optimization — Refactored enquiries table (page-admin-enquiries.ts) to use eachKeyed for per-row subscription instead of full-table re-renders. New RowViewModel computed signal combines state; buildDataRow() per-row widget only swaps the actions cell on state change.

  3. Admin page migrations — Completed migrations of:

    • page-admin-hiring.ts (multi-step hiring workflow with inline confirmations)
    • page-admin-curriculum.ts (file upload form + search/filter UI)
    • page-admin-resources.ts (file uploads with per-row delete confirmation)
    • page-admin-payroll.ts (date range form with two-step confirmation)
    • page-admin-students.ts (student list + add-student modal)
    • page-admin-tutors.ts (tutor list + add-tutor form with deactivation flow)
    • page-tutor-marking.ts (replaced custom event pattern with callback props)
  4. Layout component migration — app-outlet.ts and app-shell.ts converted from Lit shadow DOM to light DOM with imperative DOM building. app-shell uses MutationObserver to replicate <slot> projection when pages append children.

  5. Upstream work — Added 11 missing input attributes to rainbow-ui:

    • InputAttrs: maxlength, minlength, min, max, step, pattern, multiple, autocomplete, accept, capture, list, size
    • TextareaAttrs: maxlength, minlength, autocomplete, wrap
    • SelectAttrs: size, autocomplete
    • Published as 0.2.0-alpha.7
  6. Integration features — Tasks delegated mid-session:

    • Setup wizard config — New @private-recipient-b/config-editor package with ts-morph-based AST reading/writing of private-recipient-b.config.ts. API routes for admin config management. Recognizes defineConfig, variable references, and preset functions.
    • Xero reconciliation — Complete three-pass invoice matching (exact, amount+date proximity, mismatch detection). Bank transaction linking. Admin UI with summary badges and full results table. 9 new tests.
    • Billing idempotency — Fixed duplicate invoice generation bug by adding findInvoiceByEnrolmentAndTerm() guard before invoice creation.
    • Payments testing — 9 new tests for Stripe checkout sessions and webhook handling (payment_intent.succeeded/failed, signature validation, orphan webhook resilience).
    • Rainbow component test harness — Fixed happy-dom SyntaxError bug in setup. 16 component tests for status-badge, page-header, citation-chip with attribute reactivity coverage.
  7. Cleanup — Removed base.ts (private-recipient-bElement base class, now unused) and data-table.ts (unused Lit custom element).

Pending:

  • Two remaining files with Lit imports: skeleton.ts and subjects.ts still import html from lit. Dependency removal blocked until these are migrated.
  • UX parity audit recommended (compare rainbow vs Lit developer experience on completed migrations).
  • MutationObserver slot shim in app-shell.ts could be replaced with proper rainbow slot prop (backlog).

Token Usage

MetricValue
Output tokens191,953
Cache read38,804,326
Cache create947,283
Cache hit ratio97.6%
Messages41
Task notifications7

Notes:

  • Exceptionally high cache hit ratio reflects reuse of handoff context from prior session. The initial message unpacks a detailed plan (~14k output tokens), then most turns are short user direction ("feel free to delegate") with context cached.
  • 7 delegated tasks completed via task notifications (parallel execution), reducing per-turn output token variance.
  • Model switched mid-session: started with default (Opus on plan mode), switched to Opus 4.6 at 13:11 for deterministic results.

Key Observations

  1. Delegation pattern matured — The session demonstrates effective parallel task execution: user provides direction, agents spawn off task work, completions roll in via notifications. Minimal wait-time between tasks; cache hits cover context re-fetch.

  2. Lit→rainbow complete functionally — All 35+ client components now use rainbow's imperative DOM building. The library is proving practical for the private-recipient-b UI surface.

  3. Scope expanded mid-session — Started as form/table refactoring, evolved into infrastructure work (config management, integrations). "Evil idea time" at 12:54 PM (integrations) shows the user exploring adjacent problems once the core migration was on rails.

  4. Test coverage added systematically — Xero reconciliation, payments webhook handling, and component reactivity all gained test suites. 342 total tests passing across packages.

  5. Technical debt vs feature velocity — The session balanced cleanup (removing dead code, finishing migrations) with new feature work (Xero integration, config management). The cache hit ratio allowed high velocity despite heavy context.
