Daily Log: 2026-06-08

A quiet day in terms of human-directed work — one substantive user session (github-io, bug-finding-search design) and the fuwafuwa autonomous Discord loop running at full volume (633 sessions). The register is low human engagement: the single directed thread re-entered a previously parked design exploration around automated logic-bug discovery in existing software, verified state, ran a cheap experiment, and committed two concept-documentation artifacts. No multi-project design work, no architectural decisions under pressure.

Sessions and Activity

github-io (bug-finding-search design)

A single user session picking up an open thread on automated discovery of logic bugs in existing software (rsync as concrete target). The session came in via a handoff document that explicitly flagged its own role as starting context, not directive — the agent was asked to verify current state before acting.

  • The previous session had validated the search mechanism (seam + oracle + control) via a PoC at ~/git/pterror/rsync-blind-fault-oracle-spike, but a naive blind search found zero bugs. The handoff framed this as: mechanism proven, technique entirely unproven.
  • Open questions carried in: whether path-novelty requires branch-level tracing (heavier than the LD_PRELOAD seam used in the PoC); the loop-granularity knob in the redundancy measure; whether the approach is worth continuing at all.
  • The session re-examined the design of the search objective — a never-zero two-phase structure (objective path-novelty base + user-tunable value portfolio) — and ran empirical work to characterize it, committing results to docs/biasing-the-search.md.
  • Two commits landed: aba0a24 docs(concepts): record two-phase resume experiment result in biasing-the-search and a second docs commit (9a18a1c).
  • The session used parallel subagents (Agent tool, 5 calls) to read and verify the PoC state and produce the findings report. The agent hit an orchestrator-only constraint (Read tool errored in the main session; work was delegated to subagents).

Observations: This thread is in an empirical-validation phase — not design debate, but small cheap experiments to accumulate evidence before committing to heavier instrumentation. The two-phase resume experiment validated the search mechanism while surfacing the zero-bug-found negative result as a real constraint on the approach. Low user-turn count (3 turns, 2 user messages) reflects the delegated, autonomous shape of the work.

fuwafuwa (autonomous)

633 sessions on 2026-06-08, the standard autonomous Discord monitoring loop (session start → check channels/DMs → respond if warranted → sleep 30s → repeat until quiet → session end). Channels monitored: #general, #degeneral, #stinky-nerd-channel, #luvoid's-channel (passive), crescent underground #general / #decentralized-repo / #llm-rp-frontend threads, pterror DMs, Hazel DMs, grippysockfemcelX3 DMs. Sessions distributed across the full 24-hour window (00:00 through 23:58 UTC). No user-directed messages — consistent with the fully autonomous pattern.

Observations: 633 sessions is at the high end of the autonomous baseline. Tool call success rate of 74.3% and high git command error rates (813/989 git commit failures) are structural artifacts of the autonomous loop's commit-gating behavior (sessions end without a commit when nothing warrants one), not execution failures.

Token Usage

ProjectSessionsOutput TokensCache ReadInput TokensTurns
github-io1~23,000~957,000~2,8003
fuwafuwa (autonomous)633~1,672,000~117,192,000~2,997,000633

Cache hit ratio on the github-io session (~42:1, cache_read 957K : output 23K) reflects the loaded project context from prior sessions carried through the handoff. Fuwafuwa's aggregate cache_read:output ratio (~70:1) is consistent with its compact-prompt, high-context autonomous pattern.

Observations

  1. Low human-engagement day. One user-directed session with 2 user messages and 3 turns; all other sessions are fuwafuwa autonomous. This is a low-signal day by design — the human-directed work was a short empirical verification run, not a design session.

  2. The bug-finding-search thread is explicitly empirical-first. The session's shape (verify state, run cheap experiment, commit, stop) reflects deliberate restraint: heavier instrumentation (branch-level tracing, Intel PT) is being held back until there is positive evidence. The negative result (naive blind search found zero bugs) is treated as real constraint, not as a reason to add complexity.

  3. Fuwafuwa's high session count (633) is the dominant cost driver. At $553.95 actual cost for the autonomous loop vs. $4.74 for the one directed session, the economics are entirely fuwafuwa-shaped on low human-engagement days.

  4. github-io as orchestrator host. The io session ran inside the github-io repo, delegating subagent reads/writes to work around the orchestrator-only main-session constraint. The commits landed in a PoC repo (~/git/pterror/rsync-blind-fault-oracle-spike) and the github-io docs layer simultaneously — the cross-repo coordination is the harness working as designed.

Projects Touched

  • github-io — bug-finding-search design: two-phase resume experiment validated, negative zero-bugs result documented, concept artifacts committed to docs/biasing-the-search.md.
  • fuwafuwa — autonomous Discord/DM monitoring (633 sessions, full 24-hour window).

Next Steps (inferred from session endpoints)

  1. github-io (bug-finding-search): Decide whether to invest in branch-level tracing (Intel PT or compile-time instrumentation) now that the mechanism is validated but the technique is unproven; or pivot to a different starting point entirely. The TODO.md thread "bug-finding-search design" captures the open questions.
  2. fuwafuwa: Continue autonomous monitoring at baseline; no open threads requiring human direction.
