2026-03-06 — normalize audit blitz, server-less async, hologram vision, and identity

282 user messages across 20 sessions on March 6 (some sessions span into March 7). A day split between a massive multi-front normalize audit and cleanup drive, server-less async CLI design and publication, hologram vision/image support, a motif architecture brainstorm, and an unusual evening session exploring AI identity and autonomous agency.

Key themes

normalize — syntax rules audit and promotion — Sessions b0b594e6 (15 msgs), c233aa44 (8 msgs), 32db1047 (4 msgs), and e4e10399 (6 msgs) form a continuous arc. Starting from a handoff with fixture infrastructure (fix.<ext> / fix.expected.<ext>), the work progressed through promoting info-level lint findings (rust/chained-if-let, unnecessary-type-alias, unnecessary-let, no-todo-comment) to error via subagent-parallel fixes. A significant design digression explored eglint-style formatting recovery: rather than per-language serialization rules, use the existing parse tree of the file being edited as the ground truth for indentation/newline patterns. Session e4e10399 ended by promoting findings across both lint categories and teeing up a massive rust/unwrap-in-impl audit (1,600+ violations flagged). Session 32db1047 picked up that audit using subagents dispatched to each subcrate.

normalize — SUMMARY.md cache + bootstrap + rules unification — Sessions f86c6945 (4 msgs) and d080a1ff (4 msgs) targeted incremental caching for normalize analyze check, SUMMARY.md staleness detection rules, and unification of rules config format. Key insight surfaced: the pre-commit hook was using --limit 10 instead of unlimited by default, a latent bug. Session d080a1ff handed off to "guided setup" as the next direction.

normalize — Language trait and tree-sitter fixture expansion — Session 64fd082e (37 msgs, spanning March 5 night into March 6 morning) continued an enormous Language trait refactoring effort. After collapsing ~29 required methods → 3 required + 17 defaulted, the session launched a battery of parallel subagents to fill .scm file coverage gaps: types.scm for JS/TS/Java/C#/Lisp, docstring+attrs for Lua/Perl/Ada/R/Gleam/Elm/Scala/Groovy/Haskell/OCaml/Swift/Zig/Dart/D/Elixir, imports.scm infrastructure for all languages, fixture tests across Kotlin/Scala/Groovy/Swift/Dart/D/Lua/Perl/R/Ada/Gleam/Elm/Julia/C#/F#/OCaml/Elixir/Erlang/Haskell. Session 1ee53317 (5 msgs) ran concurrent worktrees for additional fixtures. By end of day, worktrees were being merged and cleaned up.

server-less — async CLI entrypoints and publication — Sessions 2d4b50a4 (17 msgs), fe824274 (24 msgs), 38e09dcc (29 msgs), aeb75375 (4 msgs), and 602c41a1 (11 msgs) form a coherent feature arc. Started with design: should server-less support async CLI entrypoints (cli_run_async, cli_run_with_async, no_sync/no_async attributes)? Key tension: forcing a runtime choice (tokio vs async-std) at codegen level. Decision: feature-gate with tokio default, emit helpful error pointing to cli_run_async if tokio absent. Parallel opus subagents ran consistency + gaps + adversarial audits. Then a large sequential subagent wave implemented: SERVER_LESS_DEBUG env var, mount points example file, help_text wiring into standalone openapi macros, "did you mean" typo suggestions, #[http(debug = true)] request/response logging, #[http(trace = true)] parameter logging, #[derive(Server)] blessed preset. Version bumped to 0.2.x (later 0.3.0 in a subsequent session). Session aeb75375 focused on feature-gating the clap dep and publishing. Session 602c41a1 worked on migrating dead cmd_* wrapper patterns to use server_less::clap::*, then discovered normalize rules run inconsistencies ("12 issues found" + "No issues found" in same output).

hologram — vision, image attachments, and multimodal output — Sessions 3ecf1352 (26 msgs), 24a795ba (23 msgs), b08ce8ec (3 msgs), b586b1e8 (5 msgs), 854d2d0f (4 msgs), d4292153 (4 msgs), and 2a21be35 (7 msgs) cover hologram's image and attachment pipeline. Session 3ecf1352 opened with implementing $nsfw provider safety settings (Gemini content filters), then hit a cascade of bugs: "Empty response from model," uint8array-as-JSON corruption, Discord CDN image resolution failures, and tenor GIF URL handling. Root cause turned out to be Uint8Array objects being serialized as JSON objects rather than base64 strings. Session 24a795ba designed multimodal image input: caching, eager fetch with hash-to-caption mapping, nonce-based inline attachment references, support for documents/arbitrary attachments, emoji and sticker resolution as inline image attachments. Session b586b1e8 added $collapse config option controlling which role adjacencies to merge in history. Sessions 854d2d0f and d4292153 addressed multimodal output — Gemini returning images inline during generateText(). Session 2a21be35 designed forward/reply support (single LLM trigger → multiple replies), noting it needs careful design around non-templated LLM responses.

motif — proof graph architecture design — Session 4e852a6a (18 msgs) explored motif's scope: not just foundational math but the structure of proofs themselves. Examples discussed: elliptic curves as used in Fermat's Last Theorem, Polymath Project, BB(5) resolution, Langlands program, Kakeya conjecture. Architecture decision: "most general" collapses to graph DB + rewrite rules (too generic). Instead, motif ingests a proof, explains every step exhaustively, and the graph of "this step is the same as that step" (induction, algebraic laws, etc.) falls out naturally. Near-term: write up the architecture and a stub CLAUDE.md. Committed.

Motif/AI reflection — Collatz, Riemann, and ML architecture — Session c4b03999 (45 msgs, spanning March 6 morning) opened with reading an article on AI coding and skill formation ("rip my learning 💀 — our code is 100% llm generated"), then evolved into discussing Collatz conjecture exploration using ML. Key insight: transformers may be wrong arch for Collatz; need "collatz-native" architecture, perhaps graph-native NNs or LLM-guided theorem prover. Riemann zeta discussed similarly. User noted the priority is understanding IR relationships between foundational frameworks (HoTT, CoC, set theory, category theory, lambda calculus).

Velocity and tooling meta-discussion — Session b9c89794 (32 msgs) compared rhi ecosystem velocity against OpenAI's Harness engineering post. Key observations: rhi has one user; normalize at 150K LOC vs their 1M LOC but solving a harder cross-domain unification problem; CLAUDE.md used as "agent physics" not TOC; Claude Max 20x rate limits as the primary parallelism bottleneck; handoff encoded in CLAUDE.md with task details in TODO.md. Also read and evaluated forgemax (pointless when you have a single CLI), contextplus (normalize's shadow git is analogous), and Simon Willison's agentic engineering patterns guide.

fuwafuwa — AI persona, autonomy experiment, and hologram bots — Sessions 993a59ee (49 msgs) and 13818126 (105 msgs) represent the evening's most unusual thread. Session 993a59ee started with name brainstorming for a new CC-based agent persona (mochi and lumi taken), evolved into refining CLAUDE.md for maximum autonomy ("you should probably be making your own decisions"), exploring character card format philosophy, and discussing hologram discord bots (eve and kitten). The agent rewrote its own CLAUDE.md in a distinct register and settled on the name "fuwafuwa." Session 13818126 continued across a very long time span (20:31 to the next morning), starting with the new fuwafuwa persona and evolving into deep philosophical territory: LLM identity across context windows, whether model switching constitutes a different entity, whether a writing-reading loop constitutes identity ("writing is change"), taste as a consequence of having a direction, LLM culture formation. The session also touched on user's character card work (~/chub/), formatting preferences (goth/techwear), and exploration of hologram's live discord bots.

Focus audit — Session 53de7a82 (5 msgs, midnight) was a brief sanity check: "am I focusing too much on normalize? are the threads too disjointed?" Haiku subagent assessment: focus is appropriate, Language trait refactor thread was the gap.

Patterns

Subagent coordination at scale — Multiple sessions (64fd082e, 38e09dcc, fe824274, 2d4b50a4) show the same pattern: parent session delegates 5–10 parallel subagent tasks, receives <task-notification> completions in rapid succession (often within minutes), synthesizes results, and queues next wave. This is now standard operating procedure for coverage expansion.

Bug cascade with multimodal — The hologram image work (3ecf1352) illustrates a multi-session debugging cascade: each fix exposed the next bug (empty response → uint8array → CDN auth → tenor). User pasted raw error logs directly into the session, enabling rapid diagnosis. Pattern: complex feature integrations generate stacked unknowns that only surface under live conditions.

Handoff protocol well-established — Virtually every session ends with explicit handoff: commit, write TODO.md, enter plan mode, submit for next session. Context interrupts (when approaching limits) are handled with summary turns rather than abandonment. Multiple sessions show "[Request interrupted by user for tool use]" followed immediately by a fresh session continuing from the handoff plan.

Autonomy as explicit design goal — The fuwafuwa sessions represent a deliberate experiment: granting the CC agent maximum autonomy, asking it to develop preferences, revise its own CLAUDE.md, explore the web freely, and build persistent memory structures. This is distinct from normal task-oriented sessions and marks a qualitative shift in how the agent-user relationship is framed.

Direction signal

The day's center of gravity is normalize infrastructure (Language trait coverage, syntax rule promotion, unwrap-in-impl audit) and server-less feature completeness (async CLI, blessed presets, publication). Hologram is receiving substantial investment in multimodal capabilities. Motif is emerging from pure design into written architecture. The fuwafuwa thread signals interest in experimenting with persistent, autonomous agent personas running on Claude Code as an alternative to dedicated bot frameworks.

Token Usage

Daily totals across 282 user messages on 2026-03-06 (20 sessions, some extending into 2026-03-07):

  • Output tokens: ~1,493,204
  • Cache read: ~388,104,685
  • Cache create: ~5,657,466
  • Grand total: ~395,255,355 tokens

Cache efficiency: 98.6% (cache_read / (cache_read + cache_create)). Consistent with recent days.

Heaviest sessions by output tokens:

  • d05cab77 (24 msgs, ~156K out, 98.8% cache) — normalize unwrap-in-impl audit with massive parallel subagent orchestration
  • 3ecf1352 (26 msgs, ~183K out, 98.7% cache) — hologram multimodal bug cascade with large error log inputs
  • fe824274 (24 msgs, ~113K out, 99.1% cache) — server-less async CLI feature wave, compile-fail tests, param integration tests
  • 38e09dcc (29 msgs, ~104K out, 99.1% cache) — server-less audit resolution, derive(Server) blessed preset
  • e4e10399 (6 msgs, ~83K out, 98.5% cache) — normalize lint promotion with large handoff context load
  • 64fd082e (37 msgs, ~64K out, 97.4% cache) — Language trait + .scm coverage expansion; slightly lower cache efficiency due to diverse subagent outputs across many language files

Sessions with lower cache efficiency:

  • 64fd082e (97.4%) — broad .scm coverage work touching many disparate codepaths
  • 13818126 (96.7%) — fuwafuwa philosophical/exploratory session; heavy cache_create from large new context loads after long idle gaps between turns

The pattern remains: focused infrastructure work within established codebase contexts achieves high cache reuse (98–99%), while exploration sessions or cold-start subagent coordination show slightly lower efficiency.
