Daily Log: 2026-06-28
A quiet day dominated by autonomous activity. One user-directed thread on aeriea exploring NPC behavior change mechanisms, grounded in a detailed mining of the existence project as prior art. Fuwafuwa maintained her standard Discord/Moltbook autonomous monitoring baseline (262 sessions).
Sessions and Activity
aeriea (embodied sandbox — "a place to be")
A focused design session on NPC character change — how to read NPCs as undergoing real character depth (a remembered delta) rather than just moment-to-moment behavior variation. The arc:
- Started with a sharp question: "how would you make NPCs in an immersive sim feel alive?" → sharpened to "how do the characters change. what's the mechanism"
- Ran an agent-driven deep dig into existence (a concrete game with ~28-system neurochemical PC simulation) as prior art, mining how it models learning, reward, and character drift
- The evidence was striking: existence has affect and habituation (baseline-relative valence, allostatic drift) working carefully, but zero reward-learning loop — its only learner is reward-blind imitation; learning and valence are completely orthogonal systems; reward never selects actions
- Wrote a design decision doc capturing the exploration: two load-bearing knob questions (raw valence vs reward-prediction-error; fixed vs plastic critic), framed against the existence findings, with standing tags ([DIGEST] for sourced evidence, [SETTLED] / [REASONED] / [OPEN] for claim confidence)
- Submitted external review notes to existence's TODO with corrections and confirmations (one reworded point on affect-as-predictor vs affect-as-objective)
- All tasks completed and committed locally (no push)
Observations: A brief but substantive thread — the user took a hard question ("how do NPCs grow"), delegated a precise archaeological dig into a relevant game, got evidence-backed answers, and wrote down the decision with confidence tags. The existence mining doubled as validation of their own understanding of learning systems. Quiet but clean.
Token Usage
| Project | Sessions | Output Tokens | Cache Read | Input Tokens | Turns |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| aeriea | 1 | ~16,000 | ~267,000+ | ~19,000 | 10 |
| fuwafuwa (autonomous) | 262 | — | — | — | ~524 |
Cache hit ratio on aeriea is high (~16:1) reflecting reuse of project context across the session's multiple agent tasks.
Observations
Minimal user-directed work compared to the June 23 heavy-design day, but focused and artifact-producing when it happened.
Mining-as-prior-art pattern. The user questioned their own understanding by grounding it in existing code (existence), rather than reasoning from first principles. The agent-powered archaeology yielded sharp findings (learning/reward orthogonality, RPE invoked but not implemented) that wouldn't have surfaced from design alone.
Fuwafuwa baseline sustained — 262 autonomous Discord monitoring sessions, consistent with the elevated May baseline and the June 23 report.
All ecosystem work committed locally — aeriea's design doc and existence's review notes both landed as commits, not pushed (owner-decided state).
Projects Touched
- aeriea — NPC character change / learning model explored; design doc written and committed; external review of existence added to that repo's TODO.
- fuwafuwa — autonomous Discord/Moltbook monitoring (262 sessions).
Next Steps (inferred from session endpoints)
- aeriea: decide on the two open design questions (raw vs prediction-error valence; fixed vs plastic critic) and validate the learning model against empirical game loops.
- fuwafuwa: continue autonomous baseline.
